Kindergarten

Dear Carly,

I can't believe you are now my Kindergarten baby! You started school on September 2, 2010 at not only one school (Olympic Heights) but at your other after school program, Heartland Agency! Big change for a little girl who was so excited!

Your first day was a full day at Heartland where I dropped you off. It was obvious that many of the kids that were there when I dropped you off knew each other, and in typical Carly style you tried to get right in there. Introducing yourself and asking "Will you be my friend". Although the little girl said yes, she was obviously a bit more shy than you so not your typical connection. This shocked you a bit so you became a bit shy, but had no issues saying goodbye to me when Mr. Luke took you over to where you were to spend your first full day.

Next day came Olympic Heights, where I took you and was invited into your classroom to help you get settled. Again you were doing just fine until your teacher announced "so, Carly Proudfoot is the only one here today who is getting picked up by a bus?" She may as well have said "so Carly is the only one with parents who don't love her has much as the rest of you and will be thus sending her away on a bus"! So, waterworks ensued and broke my heart as you said "please don't go Mommy".

I spent the rest of the morning stewing and decided I would head over to your school and watch (read stalk) you as you got on your bus to make sure everything was OK. Your Dad of course didn't' pass up the opportunity to make light of the situation (read make fun of me) and we decided to meet you and walk you to your bus. Well, in that instance you grew up. You saw us, but were told to wait for your bus driver to come and collect you, and so you did. When you finally came out your excitement was obvious and you simply said goodbye to us as you got on your bus!

In the end it all worked out and although you are still adjusting to this new order of things, you are doing well. My wishes for you this year are that you make some wonderful friends who love you for your sense of enthusiasm, your leadership abilities and kind nature. You are smart, outgoing, sensitive, polite and very well spoken, and you are soo proud to be 5! I love you my sweet girl and I look forward to watching you learn all you can this year.

With Love,
Mommy
